New York State Senate Offers Graduate/Post-Graduate/Mid-Career Fellowships

The New York State Senate is offering Graduate/Post-Graduate/Mid-Career Fellowships for 2007-2008 to provide talented individuals with an intimate knowledge of New York State Government and to attract these individuals to public service careers.  The program begins September 13, 2007, and concludes July 16, 2008. The application deadline is April 13, 2007.

Applicants must be United States citizens and are generally expected to be full-time graduate students in an accredited university and approved discipline during the previous fall semester and in the current spring semester. Each applicant must provide evidence of mature/flexible public service sensibility and orientation, and demonstrate accomplished research and communications skills. The Roth (Journalism) Fellow may be a recent exceptional graduate at the undergraduate level. The Biggane (Finance) Fellow will be a person in mid-career, not less than 35 years of age at the time of application.  Biggane applicants need not be currently enrolled in graduate-level study, but must have previous graduate-level experience. Class work is prohibited during the full-time Fellowship.

Each Fellow receives a fully taxable stipend of $32,000. Fellows are not Senate employees and do not earn vacation or personal leave. Certain benefits — health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement program — are available.

For application forms and additional information, contact the campus liaison officer: Professor Joseph F. Zimmerman, Rockefeller College, 288 Richardson Hall (downtown campus), 135 Western Avenue, Albany, New York 12222. Telephone: (518) 442-5378 or (518) 439-9440.  E-Mail: [email protected]
