About the Conference

The Albany conference is part of the international collaboration between the Urban China Research Network (UCRN) based in Albany and Sun Yat-sen University in Guangzhou, China. Established in 1999 at the University at Albany, the Urban China Research Network is a multi-disciplinary and multi-institutional project. Its primary objective is to conduct and support research and training activities focusing on urbanization and urban change in contemporary China.
The current project builds upon previous international collaboration with colleagues from Sun Yat-sen University in China. There are two major objectives of our collaboration: one is to train the next generation of urban China scholars and the second is to foster international collaborations. With support from the Lingnan Foundation, we held an initial international conference in Guangzhou, China in January 2013. Graduate students and selected faculty presented papers based on their research in progress. The Albany conference is the second phase of the project. Graduate students who have made substantial progress with their research will be invited to Albany to report on their findings. These students will be linked with faculty mentors to facilitate the preparation of publishable manuscripts.
