Steven T. Kuykendall served in the United States House of Representatives from 1999 to 2001, representing California's 36th Congressional District.
ALBANY, N.Y. (October 6, 2009) -- On Oct. 7 and 8, political science students at the University at Albany's Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy will welcome two former U.S. Congressmen, the Honorable John Glen Browder (D-AL,1989-1997) and the Honorable Steven T. Kuykendall (R-CA, 1999-2001), into their classrooms as part of the Congress to Campus program.
Founded by the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress (USAFMC) in 1976 as a means to improve students' understanding of American government and encourage careers in public service, the Congress to Campus program sends bipartisan pairs of former U.S. Congressmen -- one Democrat and one Republican -- to colleges and universities to share their real-life experiences as candidates and office holders in a representative democracy. Over two days, the former representatives conduct classes, hold forums, and meet informally with students and faculty.
"The Congress to Campus program provides our students with an exciting opportunity to engage our civic leaders in a direct and personal way. The visit will allow our students to see firsthand how what they learn in the classroom applies to some of the most important public policy questions of the day, " said David Rousseau, chair of the Department of Political Science at Rockefeller College.
