ALBANY, N.Y. (Aug. 15, 2023) — UAlbany has introduced a new electric trolley, numbered 1844, as part of a growing fleet of zero-emission vehicles designed to enhance the University community. The trolley made its debut on Wednesday, Aug. 9 during an ice cream social for faculty and staff hosted by President Havidán Rodríguez.

The electric trolley will serve as a specialty vehicle, providing green transportation at major University gatherings, such as admissions events, Commencement, athletic competitions and academic seminars.

The trolley, which has a 30-seat capacity and a 105-mile range, has a maximum highway speed of 65 mph. Over the next decade, the electric trolley is projected to displace 25,000 gallons of diesel fuel, resulting in a reduction of more than 500,000 pounds of CO2 emissions.

In addition to the trolley, the newest member of the University Police Department, Roxy, was introduced to the campus community at the social with her partner, Officer Kenneth Faath. Roxy is set to receive her therapy dog certification in the coming weeks as she celebrates her first birthday.
