Scene Project

Students will be divided into groups of 3-5.  Each group is responsible for interpreting and performing one scene from an assigned play that the entire class will have read.  It is up to the group to decide how individual responsibilities will be broken-up, but both the performance itself and a 3-5 page description of what went into the performance will be graded.

Performance:
Each group member is expected to participate in collaboration and performance of this assignment (that doesn't mean everyone in the group has to be a character in the play or even have a spoken part, but they must demonstrate a meaningful contribution to the performance.

Paper:
The written portion of the assignment is NOT a collaborative project; it is an individual assignment that every member of the group must complete for themselves.  The first page or two should explain the process the group went through in preparation for the performance: why one prop was chosen in lieu of another, why certain characters did certain things onstage, etc.  The second part of the paper should be more personal: what were your feelings about the choices your group made?  What is the significance of the scene that your group chose to reenact?

The performance and the accompanying paper are each worth 50% of the final grade for this project.  Failure to submit the paper will result in an E for the project.

Project due dates vary by play, but will be performed after every two plays throughout the semester.
