NYS Attorney General Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau
Available for mature juniors or seniors. Students act as mediators in facilitating consumer cases with a variety of merchants.
The student can expect to develop analytical and case management skills and become familiar with consumer issues. They may also work with Assistant Attorneys General on case development and fraud investigations.
Students are given the title of "Mediators" and act as consumer advocates in negotiating consumer complaints with merchangs. Each mediator is assigned a number of consumer complaint files covering a broad range of consumer issues including retail sales, mail order transactions, credit transactions, etlemarketing, warranty problems, home repair and automobiles.
This is an excellent resume building experience and each year in the Albany office students obtain over a million dollars in restitution for consumers.
The department's application must be completed and submitted with a resume.
Special note: Ten hours a week is required during time when classes are in session dress must be appropriate to the office environment.
