IMPORTANT MILNE ALUMNI NEWS! ACTION REQUIRED!

Effective December 15, 2020, Yahoo Groups will be closing down. As a result, I am moving our MilneSchoolAlumni and MilneObituaries accounts to Google Groups. These are private groups (as were the Yahoo Groups), so none of your private information will be visible to any outsiders. You are receiving the November newsletter via the Yahoo Group, but beginning December 15th, messages to both groups will be sent out via Google Groups. If you don't follow the following instructions prior to December 15th, you will no longer receive messages from the groups to which you subscribed in the past. If you're currently in one group but not the other and wish to be in both, feel free to join!

To join the MilneSchoolAlumni Google Group, go to https://groups.google.com/g/milneschoolalumni

To join the MilneObituaries Google Group, go to https://groups.google.com/g/milneschoolobituaries

In both cases, once you reach the Google group, click the button that allows you to join. Please provide your name, class year, or connection with Milne as your reason for joining. If you have any problems joining, please let me know and I can help. Also, please be patient while awaiting approval as I will be processing many requests.

DR. THEODORE H. FOSSIECK SCHOLARSHIP

If you, as a Milne School alumnus, alumna, or faculty member, have a direct descendant attending or planning to attend the University at Albany as an undergraduate for the upcoming school year, application may be made for the Dr. Theodore H. Fossieck Scholarship here beginning on December 1, 2020, for the 2021-2022 scholarship cycle. If you have any questions, please contact Bill Brooking, Director of Scholarships, Office of Financial Aid, at 518-442-5478 or [email protected].

"Established by Dr. Theodore H. Fossieck, former Principal of the Milne School and member of the Education faculty, the purpose of this fund is to provide a scholarship to a descendant of a Milne School graduate or of a Milne School faculty member.... The scholarship will be awarded to the first eligible person to apply during the application period, providing the recipient meets admissions standards." Please note that if sufficient funds are available, there may be more than one recipient.

CLASS OF 1971

SAVE THE DATE! The Class of 1971 will hold its 50-Year Class Reunion in Albany the weekend of September 24, 25, and 26, 2021. Mark your calendars! Details to follow. Questions? Contact Martha Miller.

PATIENCE CINCOTTI MASON, '61: WOODLAND LITTER CRITTERS ABC

Patience Cincotti Mason and her husband, Robert Mason (author of the best-selling Vietnam memoir, Chickenhawk), are selling their book, Woodland Litter Critters ABC, on Etsy and Amazon. It is also available through bookstores.

The critters are made by Patience out of stuff the finds in the woods, acorns, pine cones, sweet gum balls, twigs, etc. You can view the book here or read the whole thing here (click on the cover of the book).

The book has both upper and lower case letters, funny names, and is meant to amuse both kids and adults, who have to read it over and over. Patience made the bugs and wrote the words. Bob took the photos and did the layout.

Among the excellent reviews are the following:

"These little litter critters though have such charm and cleverness that you can't wait to turn the page to see which critter will represent the next letter!" Joy, The Book Children

"What I share with students in Room 407 is that I often judge an ABC book by how it treats the letter X. And Patience does not disappoint from a wonder sense. On this page, we meet Xerxes the Xenos his one-eyed Xat. Later, in the end pages of the book, we learn that Xenos means 'alien' in Greek. Imagine, later in a student's reading, when they encounter the word, xenophobia within a text and remember Xenos." Paul Hankins, Wonderopolis

"The rhyme scheme is more complex than most ABC books, a nice change for a new reader. Another thing I like is how big the letters are. They are impossible to miss. This is a great book, a favorite with my two year old and with me.” 5 stars. Elizabeth R Leps, Amazon
