CLASS-REUNION PLANS

According to Peter Bulger, the Class of 1973 is holding a 35th reunion September 12th and 13th. On Friday, September 12th, there will be an afternoon golf tournament, followed by an "all year" open gathering at Jillian's on Pearl Street in Albany. On Saturday, September 13th, the class will meet for a dinner at the Hudson Harbor restaurant on Broadway in Albany. Contact Peter for further information.

Barbara WOLMAN Currier, '55, has announced that a combined 1954-1955 reunion is scheduled for June 19 and 20, 2009.

"HAPPY" THE BEAR (Milne Mascot)

When I asked Doris MARKOWITZ Greenberg, '57 (the Milne School mascot when I started my Milne "career") whether she remembers the name of the Milne mascot, she replied that it was "Happy."

Doris remembers the following: "I became the bear when I was in the 8th grade...being the shortest kid in the school, I was able to be the mascot until senior year when Judi Safranko (finally shorter than I) took over. Mr. Cowley made the head, and the body was sewed by someone--it was darned hot, and I always had to go out at half times to take off the head and let the steam rise in the cold air. While all the cheerleaders looked cute and perky as they got on the team bus, I had the large head, the suitcase with the costume in tow...and looked rather unglamorous. I enjoyed being able to do my own thing...and it compensated for never making the cheerleader line...."

So, fellow alumni:

Was there a mascot when you attended Milne?

Was the mascot's name always "Happy"?

Who wore the bear costume when you were at Milne?

Do you have any stories to share regarding "Happy"?

Respond to Judy.
