FLORIDA MINI-REUNION(S)

Several Florida alumni have volunteered to help plan mini-reunions in their respective areas. If you haven't received an email regarding your interest in attending one of these yet-to-be-scheduled events, please contact me by clicking here. Remember: To have a mini-reunion, you need only two (or more) alumni!

ALUMNI NEWS

Merle Bachman, '72, will be signing copies of her book, Recovering "Yiddishland," Threshold Moments in American Literature,on Tuesday, February 26th, at 7 p.m. at the Book House (Stuyvesant Plaza). Merle is an assistant professor of English at Spalding University in Louisville, KY, where she also directs the fledgling BFA program in Creative Writing. She would welcome seeing Milnites ("just come - you don't even have to buy a book! Though you might want to, because it is so pretty"!).

MILNE NAME AND CLASS YEAR DIRECTORIES

As many of you know, in conjunction with the 2005 All-Milne Reunion (see April 2005 Reunion for a review of that event), several alumni discussed methods through which communication among Milne attendees can be improved. At that time, the University at Albany had a mailing list that was inaccurate, and Milne alumni were provided with only limited access to that not-particularly-helpful list.

As a result, through
assistance from University at Albany staff, research of Milne records in the University archives, and partnerships with Milne alumni — especially Mary Welch, who has had a special interest in developing accurate alumni-directory information — we have an online Milne Name Directory and Milne Class Year Directory.

In addition, I am maintaining an alumni database consisting of contact information (addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses). Please be assured that this information will not be published or shared with any commercial vendors. If you are interested in becoming a "backup" holder of this information, please let me know. I can provide a .csv file, which can be used in a spreadsheet program (e.g., Excel). Although I am obsessive about backups, I would be much more comfortable knowing that someone else has this list.

To ensure the accuracy of the directories and database, please provide updates (e.g., missing names, married names, spelling corrections, contact information, and/or "deceased" designations) so that we will be able to reach as many alumni as possible for planning future reunions and for sharing other Milne news.

SAD NEWS

Please note that I rely upon the Albany Times Union and input from other alumni for this information, so if you become aware of someone who has passed away, please let me know. If a name is underlined, it represents a link to the obituary. The Times Union links are available free for 365 days after the initial posting. Other newspapers may have different timetables.

Ann Graham Carter, '46,
has learned that Richard Bates, '43, and William Soper, '43, passed away this past year.

Peggy Ann SCHULTZ Taylor, Class of '53, passed away on February 7, 2008 - Times Union.

Thanks to all of you for your interest in Milne Alumni activities.
