 SCOPE:

            A. W. Pollard and G. R. Redgrave attempted in their Short-Title Catalogue of Books Printed in England,  Scotland, and Ireland, and of English Books Printed  Abroad, 1475-1640, often called the STC, to list all English books printed before the end of 1640 for which copies could be located in major libraries or research collections. Their bibliography is the basis for this set, which reproduces more than 22,700 items.

      ARRANGEMENT:

            This set was not filmed in any order.

REF FINDING AIDS:

A. W. Pollard and G. R. Redgrave's Short-Title Catalogue of Books Printed in England, Scotland, and Ireland, and of English Books Printed Abroad, 1475-1640, London: Bibliographical Society, 1969.

            Contains an alphabetical by main entry list of publications by author, if available, and title if no author is available. The items are numbered consectively, and these STC numbers can be used with Early English Books, 1475-1640, Cross Index to Reels  1-1698, Ann Arbor, Michigan: University Microfilms International, 1982 (located in the Microfilm Reading Room) to locate items in the microfilm set. This index refers the user from the STC number to the reel number where the item is reproduced.

            University Microfilms International has also periodically published checklists of the reel contents, which are located on top of the collection cabinets in ULB-34.
