SCOPE:

            Donald Wing's Short-Title Catalogue of Books Printed in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and British  America and of English Books Printed in Other Countries,  1641-1700, continues Pollard and Redgrave's Short-Title  Catalogue... and lists all titles, excluding periodicals, in any language printed in England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and the American Colonies, and all books printed in English anywhere for the years 1641 through 1700 for which copies could be located. The microfilm set of more than 30,000 titles is based on Wing's bibliography but excludes separate printings of the Bible, separately published statutes and proclamations, American imprints reproduced in Early American Imprints, 1639-1800, books in Welsh, and some of the almanacs, sermons and Irish and Scottish publications.

      FINDING AIDS:

 

            Most titles may be searched on the library's online catalog. Subject searched may be done as well, online catalog. Subject searches may be done as well, but documents are not accessible by individual author.
             Donald Wing, A Short-Title Catalogue of Books   Printed in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and British American and of English Books Printed in Other Countries, 1641-1700, 3 vols., New York: Columbia University Press, 1945.             Arranged alphabetically; each item is assigned an alphanumeric code, often called Wing numbers.
            Using Early English Books, 1641-1700: A Cross Index..., Ann Arbor, Michigan: University Microfilms International, 1982 (located in the Microform Reading Room), the Wing numbers can be converted to the reel numbers of the microfilm set. 
            University Microfilms International has published, Early English Books, 1641-1700: A Cumulative Index to Units 1-60 of the Microfilm Collection, 9 vols., Ann Arbor, Michigan: UMI, 1990 which has separate author, title, subject indexes as well as and index relating Wing numbers to reel positions of microfilm set.
            Checklist of reel contents are also published sporadically and are located in ULB-34.
