Czech animator Jan Svankmajer has cast Czech actor Petr Cepek as a contemporary Prague bureaucrat who gets caught up in a replay of the Faust story. Svankmayer uses spurts of clay animation, stop-motion, puppet animation, and stop-motion human beings as Faust searches for an exit from a crumbling building. This dark retelling is more Marlowe than Goethe.
