The Master’s in Philosophy program is well suited to students desiring a 'bridge' from their undergraduate program to a PhD program in Philosophy here or elsewhere (for example, students who majored in a field other than Philosophy as undergraduates), as well as those simply desiring a terminal Master's degree in the field.
The PhD in Philosophy program begins with a strong core of courses in epistemology, metaphysics, value theory, logic, and the history of philosophy. They then take further courses and do their PhD dissertation research within their elected area of specialization. Students work at all times in close cooperation with individual faculty members in their area. Students are encouraged where appropriate to complement their study with advanced courses in cognate fields.
