The Department of Educational Policy and Leadership (EPL) facilitates development of knowledge and skills essential for excellence in a broad array of education leadership and policy careers. EPL faculty are regionally, nationally, and internationally recognized experts in education policy and elementary, secondary, and postsecondary education management and leadership.
Following studies leading to a master's degree, advanced graduate certificate, certificate of advanced studies, or Ph.D., EPL graduates take up posts as leaders, policymakers, researchers, and faculty in domestic and international arenas.

This master’s degree program offers concentrations in education policy, higher education leadership, and school leadership. In addition to coursework in the concentration area, students gain knowledge and skills derived from the social sciences. Credit-bearing internships may also be completed as part of the M.S. program. International and comparative perspectives are special features of the M.S. program. The Master of Arts in International Education Management and Leadership is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be effective managers and leaders in the international education field. Aspiring and early career professionals as well as mid-career administrators will gain a focused, in-depth, and coherent understanding of cutting edge issues and recent developments in international education management as embedded within the administration, leadership, data analytics, risk management, financing, and student support functions of higher education institutions and other international education organizations. Through a combination of scholarly and applied learning experiences, graduates of the program are prepared to be data-driven leaders in the international education management field. Those completing this M.A. degree will be able to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their jobs, either to comprehend aspects of the field as a whole or to update knowledge and experience in particular areas. The Certificate of Graduate Study in Community College Leadership prepares faculty and staff for leadership roles within the two-year college setting. This 12-credit program is designed to provide students with the knowledge about the administration, leadership, and learning environment in the community college as well as provide them with an introduction to skills necessary to effectively analyze and address education-related problems. The program is intended to prepare globally-aware community college leaders who can identify, analyze, and lead in the rapidly changing world of community colleges. This program also serves as a gateway into the M.S. in Higher Education, M.S. in Educational Policy and Leadership, and Ph.D. in Educational Policy and Leadership.
The Advanced Graduate Certificate program in School Building Leadership (SBL) includes coursework designed to prepare students for New York State certification as a School Building Leader (such as building principal). In addition to completing the program, students must successfully pass the NYS examination for School Building Leaders.
The Advanced Graduate Certificate program in School District Leadership is for students who have completed the school building leadership program. The program prepares students for NYS certification as a School District Leader (such as superintendent or assistant superintendent). In addition to completing the program, students must successfully pass the NYS examination for School District Leaders.
The Advanced Graduate Certificate program in School District Business Leadership (SDBL) is for students who have completed the school building leader program. The program prepares students for New York State certification as a School District Business Leader (such as a school business official). In addition to completing the program, students must successfully pass the NYS examination for School District Business Leaders.
