Economics

The Economics Department has a strong faculty engaged in a wide range of applied and theoretical research. In a recent ranking of U.S. economics departments (Journal of Economic Perspectives, Winter 1998), UAlbany placed twenty-fourth among public universities and forty-fourth overall on the basis of per capita pages published in top economics journals. Our strengths include econometrics, macroeconomics, microeconomic theory, labor economics and public economics. Graduates from the Economics programs obtain positions throughout the world in academia, business, government and other agencies and organizations.

Economic Forecasting CGS

In conjunction with the Econometric Research Institute, the Economics Department offers a 15-Credit Certificate in Economic Forecasting. The Graduate Certificate in economic forecasting is designed to provide intensive training in the techniques of economic forecasting without requiring all the coursework necessary for the M.A. degree. Students in the forecasting concentration of the M.A. program automatically qualify for this certificate. In addition, the certificate is available to students in other fields, such as business or sociology, and to professionals who complete the required course of study.

Economics MA

The M.A. program in economics allows students to acquire advanced training in economic analysis and apply it in an area of concentration. The curriculum prepares students for careers in administration and research in government, business, and other private organizations. Economics PhD

The Ph.D. in economics program trains highly qualified professional economists for careers in teaching and research in colleges and universities and in research and administration in government and private organizations. Located in the capital of New York State, the University offers several internship opportunities with government agencies and other institutions for the purpose of providing practical training and experience. In addition, there are various opportunities to work closely with faculty on funded research projects.
