Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is growing and evolving rapidly. There are presently fifteen full-time faculty and six full-time staff members working with approximately 40 graduate students and ten post-doctoral coworkers. In addition to the central areas of chemistry, the diversity of research interests spanned by the faculty include material science, biochemistry, organic synthesis, inorganic synthesis, biophysical chemistry, and medicinal chemistry. Nearly all of our graduate students in the Chemistry department are supported with a teaching assistantship or research assistantship over the course of their studies.

The Chemistry graduate student body is international in composition and we enjoy diverse classes and research groups as a result. The balanced student-faculty ratio insures that every Chemistry graduate student will have ample opportunity for interaction with the faculty throughout their graduate study.

Our faculty members publish in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and receive the most competitive research funding from National Science Foundation (NSF), National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense (DOD) and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), etc. As a result, exciting research opportunities abound for our graduate students and undergraduates alike.
