Robert Keith worked in elementary educational technology for nearly 20 years before he made the decision to go back to college. Happy in his field but looking to further his professional knowledge, Robert knew a master’s degree would deepen his skills and provide career flexibility.
A resident of New York City, Robert began searching for in-state programs. He quickly found that most options were just too expensive and would not accommodate his full-time job. Then he came across Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology (CDIT) at the University at Albany and knew he found the right program.
“CDIT is a theoretical program with a good deal of focus given to research and exploring nationwide trends, all of which is all very interesting to me. I was looking to go beyond what was already familiar to new areas I had yet to explore.”
CDIT offers both online and on-campus course options, but Robert chose distance learning for its flexibility and convenience. Although the coursework was rigorous, he felt the syllabi were well organized and faculty expectations were clear. Robert completed the 30-credit program in just over a year.
“I’m so glad I did distance learning; it was the best experience I ever had in education. It was a lot of work, but it never felt stifling … it felt accomplishable. The way the program is designed makes it possible to succeed.”
Now with his Master of Science in Curriculum Development and Instructional Technology in hand, Robert looks forward to what lies ahead.
“I want to continue what I’m doing, but include more research. This program taught me how to utilize educational learning theory as a tool and to be a stronger professional leader. I’m now prepared for additional leadership development opportunities.”
