“Chapter Advisor of the Year”

The American Political Science Association has named Anne Hildreth of the Department of Political Science as the “Chapter Advisor of the Year” for Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society. In addition to special recognition, Hildreth will receive a cash award of $1,000 from the association.

“I have been impressed with the commitment of the political science faculty to the undergraduate program. One sign of this commitment is our flourishing chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha,” said Frank Thompson, the dean of the Graduate School of Public Affairs. “And by all reports, its robust state is due to Anne Hildreth’s leadership and inspiring commitment to her undergraduate students.”

New Coordinator for U-Kids

U-Kids Child Care, the campus’s children’s center, has appointed Lori M. Langone as its new program coordinator. For the last year a teacher at the Head Start program in Albany, Langone worked during most of the previous five years in programs for pre-kindergarten youth.

“The atmosphere on a college campus for a day care program is particularly good, and I’m glad to be back in this kind of situation,” said Langone, who taught at the Chautauqua Day Care Project at the SUNY College of Fredonia from June of 1993 to August of 1995. She was an assistant teacher for two and one-half years at an extended day nursery prior to that.

Langone received her higher education degrees at Fredonia, earning a master of science in elementary education in 1995, a bachelor in science in education in 1992, and a bachelor of science in communication/media in 1989.

Constituent Developers

Erin P. Crowley and Kenrick N. Higa have been appointed to the positions of constituent development officers in the Division of University Advancement, it was announced last week by Candace J. Groudine, associate vice president for development in the division.

Crowley is the former assistant director of the annual fund for the Emma Willard School in Troy, and has extensive professional experience in volunteer recruitment, training, gift cultivation and solicitation, and event organization. Higa is the former marketing director for Beeche Systems Corp. of Scotia, and has a diverse professional background in development, marketing communications, and volunteer recruitment. He is also a New York State-registered architect.

Crowley will be responsible for individual gift development for the School of Education, the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, and athletics. Higa will oversee individual gift development for selected departments within the College of Arts and Sciences and for the University Art Museum.

Psychologist Gets Faculty-Scholar Honor

Monica Rodriguez, an assistant professor in the Department of Psychology, has received the William T. Grant Foundation Faculty Scholar Award.

This is a five year grant given to promising junior scholars who investigate topics related to understanding and promoting the development, mental health and well-being of children, adolescents and youth. Rodriguez studies self-identification processes and social adjustment among ethnic minority adolescents.
