James Hargett presented a paper titled Visions of Hainan Island in the Works of Su Shi (1037-1101) at the conference China and Her Neighbors: Borders and Visions of Others, Sung to Ching, July 26-29, 1996 at Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany.
Beryl Lang of the Department of Philosophy has given two invited papers in the last few months at prestigious meetings. In October he spoke on Art and Idolatry at the annual meeting of the American Society for Aesthetics in Montreal. In August he gave a paper on Inside History and Outside memory at a conference on history and memory held in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
