Susan M. Benjamin, M.L.S., Class of 1980, has made a commitment of $10,000 towards the establishment of The Stella R. Pietrzyk Scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship will be to provide a one-year award to graduate students enrolled in the Universitys Department of Reading programs of study leading to the Ph.D. or M.S. degrees or to the Certificate of Advanced Study, who show clear recognition of the importance of childrens literature.
The fund would defray travel expenses to one of the national conferences on reading and would enable the chosen students to attend seminars relating to childrens literature and to meet national and international leaders in the field of childrens literacy.
Benjamin, who received a masters of library science degree from the University, named the scholarship in memory of her mother.
