Reading Department Travel Scholarship to be Established

Susan M. Benjamin, M.L.S., Class of 1980, has made a commitment of $10,000 towards the establishment of The Stella R. Pietrzyk Scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship will be to provide a one-year award to graduate students enrolled in the University’s Department of Reading programs of study leading to the Ph.D. or M.S. degrees or to the Certificate of Advanced Study, who show clear recognition of the importance of children’s literature.

The fund would defray travel expenses to one of the national conferences on reading and would enable the chosen students to attend seminars relating to children’s literature and to meet national and international leaders in the field of children’s literacy.

Benjamin, who received a master’s of library science degree from the University, named the scholarship in memory of her mother.
