Health and Safety

In addition to operating Student Health Services, UAlbany hosts its own branch of the New York State police, the University Police Department, which is committed to the safety and well-being of students and the entire campus community. The University also maintains an Office of Personal Safety & Off Campus Affairs that helps promote the safety of students, faculty and staff as well as relations with the larger community.

For the safety and well being of students, UAlbany provides counselling services, including an award-winning peer-assistance programthe Advocacy Center for Sexual Violence, and fitness and wellness centers. UAlbany also provides emergency and weather-related information and preparedness updates to students via an alert system.

Among its most notable safety features, UAlbany has a Blue Light Telephone system all around the campus grounds, from parking lots, residence halls, the academic podium and all along the roadways. Easily recognizable, the phones provide direct access to UPD dispatchers whenever the need arises.
