As a unit in the Division for Student Affairs, the staff in Community Standards seeks to make positive contributions to the educational, social, and personal development of our students. The staff understands the delicate balance between maintaining a safe and healthy community and honoring the rights and challenges that face young adults striving for independence.
Community Standards administers the student code of conduct, Community Rights & Responsibilities, which includes a clear outline of Prohibited Conduct. University citizens recognize and uphold standards of behavior befitting a community of scholars.
Additionally, Community Standards maintains that most negative behaviors result from a student’s inability to successfully solve problems. Students are accountable and can learn from their behavior, both positive and negative. The University is accountable to assist students with resolving problems in an acceptable manner. Students can and should be educated by interactions with the Conduct System as well as any other University or community resources available to assist them.
