ALBANY, N.Y. (March 31, 2021) – Master of Public Health (MPH) graduate Lisa Ayers was thrilled to join the School of Public Health community as she began her online MPH journey. Obtaining an MPH was a goal of hers for many years, so when she learned about UAlbany’s online MPH program, Ayers decided to pursue her dream as a working professional.

Ayers discovered her passion for public health when she began as a public health nurse at a local health department 33 years ago. Due to her extensive experience as a public health nurse, and later as director of the local health department, Ayers was able to waive 6 of the 9 internship credits required for MPH degree conferral. While completing her remaining 3 internship credits at the local health department, she enjoyed the opportunity to implement concepts from her coursework. “I always wanted to learn how to write a Request for Application. This has been an interest of mine and learning this material was very valuable to me and for my career in public health,” described Ayers.

Ayers encourages many of the staff at her local health department to enroll in the online MPH program. “I loved the flexibility of the online program. I think it is a wonderful opportunity for those that work full-time or have children at home. I am very disciplined and have great time management skills,” said Ayers.

With her MPH, Ayers plans to pursue a position at a non-governmental agency, federally qualified health center, or a community-based organization.
