Making Sense of Pneumococcal Vaccines: Updated CDC Recommendations for use in Adults

Overview
Pneumococcal vaccines for adults are important, since there are many pneumococcal infections, include pneumonia, otitis media, sinusitis, and meningitis, and pneumococcal infections account for 10-30% of adult, community-acquired pneumonia. However, as with other adult immunizations, the rates of pneumococcal immunization have historically been well below Healthy People goals. At the same time, the recommendations for pneumococcal vaccines in adults have been complicated, leading to uncertainty among health care providers s to what to recommend to their patients. In January 2022, the recommendations for pneumococcal vaccines in adults were updated. This webinar will review the importance of pneumococcal vaccines in adults and detail these updated recommendations.
