Professional in Residence

The Professional in Residence program allows Rockefeller College students an opportunity to engage with professionals from the public, nonprofit, and private sector who will share their expertise and insight.  Professionals, from these sectors, will be featured at brown bag discussions and will share their experiences as well as offer one-on-one coaching sessions with students interested in their particular field of work and an opportunity for provide practical advice regarding career paths.  The Professional in Residence program is a good opportunity for students to network with professionals with the hope of expanding their professional network and learning more about the skills they will need for ultimate career success.

The Professional in Residence program is held weekly on Tuesdays or Wednesdays and features a brown bag lunch discussion where students can ask questions regarding the professional's career path or regarding their organization/industry, followed by individual meeting times with the professionals.  Alumni may also participate virtually in the lunch discussion.

PIR#1 John is currently Senior Vice President at WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff, one of the world's leading engineering professional services consulting firms. He previously served as Presidential appointee in Obama administration as Deputy Secretary of US Department of Transportation and has twice served (for 2 different Governors) as Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation. John has also served as COO and CFO of the University of Maryland.

Michael Tobman

Michael Tobman is a seasoned professional with extensive accomplishments in media relations, political consulting, organizing, & campaign consulting. Formerly Director of Intergovernmental Affairs for US Senator Charles Schumer, he has deep experience managing political efforts throughout New York. Before that, he worked for the Nassau County Legislature first as Deputy Counsel & then as Chief of Staff to the then Democratic Majority.

Patricia Salkin

Patricia Salkin is a seasoned law school administrator and professor and former director of a government law think tank as well as a former government lawyer. She has experience on the Hill in DC, NYS Senate, NYS Executive Chamber and NYS Attorney General's Office and has served on Transition Teams for Attorneys General in NY. She’s held numerous past and present leadership positions in the American Bar Association and NYS Bar Association.

Michael Cassidy joined Brown & Weinraub in July 2014. Prior to joining Brown & Weinraub, Michael served as Governor Andrew Cuomo’s Assistant Director of State Operations, where he helped oversee the day to day management of all state departments, agencies, and authorities – an enterprise with a budget exceeding $135 billion and 130,000 employees.
