Madrid Summer Study Abroad Program

"Building a bridge from college
to the rest of your life"

Led by Dr. José E. Cruz, this summer program offers undergraduate students a mix of academic instruction and cultural immersion in one of the most exciting and cosmopolitan cities in Europe over four weeks in June. There is no language requirement to participate; all coursework is taught in English.

During your stay you will...

  • Study and experience first-hand the history and politics of Latin American migration and study urban politics focusing on social movements from a comparative perspective: Spain compared to the U.S. and Madrid to New York City.
  • Meet political leaders, advocates, activists, explore neighborhoods, and visit major museums and cultural centers.
  • Visit and explore three exciting cities outside Madrid: Toledo, Segovia, and Salamanca.
  • Hone your writing skills and practice the art of urban ethnography.
  • Earn 6 credits that can be applied to your major or minor.
  • Earn one optional internship credit (Spanish proficiency required).

Sophomores, juniors, and seniors in all majors with at least a 2.5 GPA are eligible to apply.
