Yalitza Marie Negron-Rivera is currently serving as the Director of Internships and Career Services for the Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany-SUNY.  Yalitza’s primary role is to support and empower students and alumni with understanding how to connect their academic interests and passions with a rewarding career. Along with her Graduate Assistants, she will assist students with resume writing and job search advice, assisting with preparing for interviews, negotiating salaries and more. 

Yalitza is a 2008 graduate of Siena College and 2013 graduate from The College of Saint Rose from Pine Bush, NY.  She is a first generation college student who completed Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master of Science in Education in Counseling Student Services Administration. Through her educational journey, Yalitza has had the unique opportunity to complete two years of national service as an AmeriCorps*VISTA Fellow and VISTA Leader with the Siena College AmeriCorps*VISTA Fellows Program. As a result of this service, she worked closely with the Director to create the infrastructure of what is now a nationally recognized program and helped to support the development of the first civic engagement office on the campus as the first Associate Director. 

Yalitza became a nationally recognized VISTA trainer and expert in sustainable community partnerships and was able to support the creation and sustainability of over 30 community partnerships.  As a result of her hard work and dedication, she became involved with a number of non-profits that provided her the opportunity to further expand her talents in which she transitioned from her previous role to becoming the Director of Youth Development for the Capital District YMCA, where she provided capacity building support for all branches on this area of their mission. 

Yalitza’s unique background in higher education, national service, civic engagement has allowed her to contribute a strong skill set of community engagement, program development, volunteer management, event planning, public speaking, cultural competency, career readiness, service-learning models, and fundraising. She is well known for her ability to facilitate a number of professional development trainings for both undergraduate’s, post-graduates and non-profit professionals, including leadership development, the art of networking, gender and sexuality, work/life balance, graduate school application and more. 

Overall, Yalitza is a passionate Hispanic professional who is committed to strengthening areas of higher education, career readiness/ career exploration, life skill development and living a fit and healthy lifestyle by supporting her local community through various forms of engagement.  Yalitza resides in Troy with her husband and stepson and is a proud and active Board Member of Unity House of Troy, a Rensselaer County- based human service agency that provides a wide range of services to support those who are living in poverty, adults living with mental illness or HIV/AIDs, victims of domestic violence, and children with developmental delays.
