Liz Benjamin to Serve as Rockefeller Recognition Ceremony Speaker

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 8, 2019) – Liz Benjamin, host of Capital Tonight, will serve as Rockefeller College’s keynote speaker at the Undergraduate Recognition Ceremony on Sunday, May 19th. The ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. in the University at Albany’s SEFCU Arena.

Liz Benjamin is the host of Capital Tonight, an hour-long TV show that airs nightly on Spectrum News and focuses on New York politics and policy. Benjamin is also the creator and editor of State of Politics – the show’s companion blog.

Liz began her career in journalism in 1997 when she joined the staff of the Albany Times Union covering suburban government, City Hall, and the State Capitol. She also launched that paper’s political blog, Capitol Confidential – the first blog devoted to state politics and government.

In 2007, Liz took a job with the New York Daily News writing a weekly column and taking over primary responsibility for the Daily Politics blog, delivering coverage of state politics to New Yorkers in real time. Liz joined Spectrum’s Capital Tonight political team in April of 2010.

Liz has an MSJ from Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and a BA in political science and French from the University of Rochester. She is married to Steve Smith, spokesman for the Albany Police Department, with whom she lives in Rensselaer County.
