American Red Cross, Northeastern New York Region

Gary Striar is Regional Chief Executive Officer of the American Red Cross Northeastern New York Region.  The Region serves a population of nearly 1.9 million people living in 17 counties of eastern New York running from the Canadian border south to Ulster and Dutchess Counties.  During his time as CEO, the Red Cross consolidated the operations of 5 separate chapters into the Northeastern New York Region reducing operating costs by 20 percent while improving service to clients. The Red Cross has also responded to numerous disasters during this time like Hurricanes Sandy and Irene, a major winter ice storm and flooding in the Mohawk Valley in both 2006 and 2013.

Prior to becoming CEO, Striar served as State Relations Director for the American Red Cross in New York State, where he represented all Red Cross chapters in New York State, as well as the New York-Penn Blood Region, on government issues. He also worked for the State of New York for a number of years including serving in the administration of Governor Mario Cuomo.

Striar lives in Delmar with his wife Catherine.  He has two sons, Adam who lives and works in New York City and Sam who is a student at the University of Maine.
