How to Link to an Existing Document

Links to documents can be added to your web page using the Text Editor. Below are step-by-step instructions for linking to a document that is already in the RedDot Asset Manager.

  1. Click on the Open Intro Text red dot in the center content area of the page where you want to add the link. This will reveal the red dots for the editable areas in the center of the page.

  2. Click on the Body Text red dot. This will open the Text Editor window displaying the text you already entered in the Body Text area.

  3. In the Text Editor, type and highlight the text that you want to link. Make sure you do not highlight any spaces and punctuation before and after the text.
     
  4. Click on the Insert or Edit Link icon on the toolbar. Insert or Edit Link icon  This will open the Insert or Edit Link window.

  5. Select the Asset tab in the Insert or Edit Link window.

  6. Click on the Select button to the right of File. This will open the Upload or Choose File window.
     
  7. Click on the Select Asset button. This will open the Asset Manager list.

  8. Scroll through the list of directories until you find the one that contains the file that you want to use.
     
  9. Click on the directory name to highlight and select it.

  10. Click the OK button on the lower right. This will open the Asset Manager for the directory you selected.
     
  11. Scroll down the page and use the page Forward arrows to find the file that you want to use.
     
  12. Click on the document's file name to select the file and display the properties on the right pane.

  13. Click the OK button on the lower right. This will bring you back to the Insert or Edit Link window. The file name should be displayed in the File field of the Asset tab.

  14. Click the OK button on the lower right. This will bring you back to the Text Editor window. Your text should now be displayed in blue and underlined.

  15. Click the OK button on the lower right of the Text Editor window. This will bring you back to the SmartEdit window. You should now see your linked text within the Body Text.

  16. You are done adding the linked file and can publish the page.
