Message from the President

Dear UAlbany Faculty,

I am pleased to announce the second round of the Presidential Innovation Fund for Research and Scholarship (PIFRS) to support cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research across the University at Albany.

The Presidential Innovation Fund is designed to provide faculty and collaborative research teams with seed funding that provides the foundation necessary to secure extramural funding for innovative and transformative research, as well as to drive advancements in scholarship and creative works.

This $500,000 competitive, peer-reviewed program will fund multi-investigator projects in five targeted research and scholarly focus areas, including:

  • Liberal Arts and Humanities
  • Life Sciences and Biomedical Research
  • Health Disparities
  • Engineering, Applied Science and Advanced Data Analytics
  • Homeland Security, Extreme Weather Resiliency, Forensic Science and Cyber Security

I am particularly encouraged by the progress of the Presidential Innovation Fund’s first year grantees, and am confident that this program will continue to stimulate the advancement of new, transformative research, scholarship and artistic creation for our faculty in the future. By providing this critical support, it is our hope that the Presidential Innovation Fund will enhance our faculty’s ability to be more competitive for larger-scale, interdisciplinary extramural awards and, at the same time, raise the national and international profile of the University at Albany and its faculty.

The Request for Applications (RFA) program guidance and instructions can be found at Presidential Innovation Fund for Research and Scholarship. Sincerely yours,
