In addition to countless other accessories provided at the 1942 console, there are the following VENTIL SWITCHES, which make possible the interplay and dialogue between various section of the organ. Each department is normally 'Off', unless its ventil switch is drawn. It is then 'on' (a fact denoted by an illuminated tablet engraved with the name of the department above its respective drawknobs). Each department is normally 'at home' on the manual assigned to it in the specification given above, and this fact is also shown in the illuminated tablet: e.g., 'ORGANO GRANDE (ON GREAT)'. If the department is transferred to another manual by one of the designated drawknobs (e.g. Organo Grande on Swell), then the first illuminated tablet will go dark, and a second one will light up, appropriately engraved (e.g., - in this same instance - 'ORGANO GRANDE (ON SWELL)'.
Ventil Switches (by drawknob):
These ventil switches, and the transfers, may be set on the general pistons, of which there are several dozen, and may also be controlled by a group of adjustable pistons reserved for them alone, situated in the key-cheeks of the various manuals and duplicated by toe-studs.
The seven swell pedals normally operate the boxes of the six manual divisions respectively (and of course the pedal), and also the boxes of any departments belonging to those manuals, or transferred to those manuals. Alternatively they may be set on a switchboard at the console. There is also a crescendo pedal.
There is a warning light for the Last Trumpet.
