poster for Beethoven FestivalDEPARTMENT CONTINUES BEETHOVEN CELEBRATION

The Music Program of the University at Albany’s Department of Music and Theatre is pleased to present the fifth concert in its season-long Beethoven Festival taking place at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus. Following four concerts this past fall, the next recital takes place on Tuesday, February 4 at 7pm and features guests artists from The College of St. Rose. Cellist David Bebe and pianist Young Kim will perform Cello and Piano Sonatas: Op. 5 No. 1, Op. 5 No. 2 and Op. 102 No. 2.

Bebe performs chamber music regularly on the Premiere Performances Concert Series with the Saint Rose Camerata. He has been a soloist with the Miami Bach Society Orchestra, Project Copernicus and the National Foundation for the Advancement of the Arts. While in Miami, Dr. Bebe gave the Florida premiere of Steve Reich’s Cello Counterpoint with the composer present. In 2013, he released a recording of Michael White’s Sonata in One Movement for Violoncello and Piano, a work he premiered with Young Kim at the Julliard School. Prior to teaching at Saint Rose, he served as the director of the Broward Symphony Orchestra and the Clark Chamber Players. He was also associate conductor for the Frost Symphony Orchestra in Miami.

Steinway artist Young Kim has performed internationally as a soloist in recitals and with orchestras, in addition to appearing numerous times as a chamber musician.  A native of South Korea, Kim has performed in international concert venues in Korea, Russia and Hungary. Since moving to the Capital District in 2000, she has appeared as a soloist with Schenectady Symphony Orchestra and Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra.
