The Music Program of the University at Albany’s Department of Music and Theatre is pleased to present Capital Trio Honors Max Lifchitz on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 7pm at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus. UAlbany’s ensemble in residence will perform chamber music written by their colleague and long time faculty member.

The concert will feature seven of Lifchitz’s compositions written over a period of fifty years. The program will conclude with an encore performance of his Song of Ourselves, a work written to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the College of Arts and Sciences. The composer will participate as guest pianist.

Violinist Hilary Cumming, cellist Şölen Dikener and pianist Duncan Cumming have been playing together as The Capital Trio for over twenty years. In residence at UAlbany, the trio has performed and held chamber music residencies in Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, and Michigan as well as in Sussex and at Cambridge University in England. The ensemble has released two recordings on the Albany Records label (TROY 1239 and 1428). Through an artist exchange program, the trio has performed, lectured, coached and given master classes at several colleges throughout the Northeast. Next year, the trio will tour Germany.

Active as pianist and composer, Max Lifchitz has appeared as soloist with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Sheboygan Symphony, México’s National Symphony Orchestra and Neuchatel Orchestra in Switzerland. A graduate of The Juilliard School and Harvard University, Lifchitz was invited to join the teaching staff of UAlbany in 1986. His numerous recordings are widely available through iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, YouTube and most other music streaming services.
