The Music Program of the University at Albany’s Department of Music and Theatre is pleased to present the University Percussion Ensemble joined by the Rensselaer Percussion Ensemble in Twenty Drummers Drummin’ on Monday, December 12 at 7pm at the UAlbany Performing Arts Center on the uptown campus.   

Featured performers will be high school senior Eric Chang of Delmar and sophomore Quentin Witherell of Wynantskill who will join the University Percussion Ensemble in a performance of Paul Smadbeck’s “Rhythm Song” with a special arrangement by the ensemble’s director, Richard Albagli. They will also join Albagli in an authentic 1930s vaudeville arrangement of “Lady of Spain.”  No strangers to the UAlbany stage, both appeared in September with Albagli in his program, Voices of the Past. Chang is principal timpanist and Witherell is principal percussionist of the Empire State Youth Orchestra.

The Rensselaer Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of Joseph Bonville, will perform two transcriptions “The Hut of Baba Yaga” from Pictures at an Exhibition and “The Comedians” by Dmitri Kabalevsky, both arranged by Bonville.  

Also on the program is “Taiko” by Scott Harding, “Bayport Sketch” by Jared Spears and “Samba de Verão by Stephen Primatec.
