Holly Barker-Flynn
Director of Orientation and Transition Programs

Holly Barker-Flynn is the Director of Orientation and Transition Programs at the University at Albany. She is responsible for the vision and strategic planning designed to enhance first year student success and satisfaction. Specifically, she oversees New Student Orientation and opening weekend programming, serves as the Student Success liaison with Academic Affairs and the faculty who facilitate the living and learning communities, in addition to serving as a link for all parents to the University. In 2011, Holly received both the University at Albany and the SUNY Chancellor’s Excellence Award which denotes exceptional contributions to the life of the campus.

Holly has presented both regionally and nationally on a variety of topics including programming and building campus traditions, working with specific populations including parents and members of the LGBTQ community, utilizing and sharing assessment data, and customer service training applying the Fish! Philosophy. In 2010, she co-presented at the inaugural Association of Higher Education Parent/ Family Program Professionals (AHEPPP) conference detailing how the University at Albany closes the assessment loop with its stakeholders.

Holly received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Elmira College and her Master’s degree in School Counseling from SUNY Oneonta.

Meghan Popcun

Meghan worked for Orientation and Transition Programs as the Graduate Assistant for two years. In January of 2014, she began working at SUNY System Administration in the Strategic Planning Office. At SUNY, Meghan worked on SUNY Excels, SUNY's Performance System, and TeachNY, an initiative to develop a new teacher-preparation policy. Meghan returned to UAlbany in February of 2015 and now serves as the Assistant Director for Operations of Orientation and Transition Programs.


Sari Khatib
Assistant Director for Programming

Born and Raised in Brooklyn, NY Sari Khatib joined the University at Albany family in 2001 as a freshman through the Educational Opportunities Program (E.O.P). He received his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, with a minor in Urban Education and Psychology and his Masters in Social Work (MSW) from the University at Albany. In his role as the Assistant Director for Programming for Orientation and Transition Programs, Sari is responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing programs for new students beginning with Summer Orientation and extending through the entire academic year. Mr. Khatib works closely with the Orientation management team to hire Orientation Assistants and to develop a 3 week Leadership Training Program.

Sari enjoys working closely with students and family members of the University at Albany Community and has extensive experience in programming and leadership development. Prior to joining the New Student Programs team, Mr. Khatib has served as an Orientation Assistant for 3 summers and as an Orientation Coordinator for 3 summers. He also worked with the Department of Residential Life for 9 years in a variety of positions (Resident Assistant, Residence Hall Director, and Quad Coordinator).

In 2010, Mr. Khatib was a recipient of the Department of Residential Life Staff Member of the Semester award. He was also a recipient of the Alumni Quad Professional Staff member of the year award in 2007, 2009, and 2011. Mr. Khatib looks forward to welcoming all New Great Danes and their family members as they begin their journey at UAlbany!
