Welcome Freshman Students! 

Welcome to the University at Albany! All new freshman students at UAlbany will participate in a two day Orientation program to prepare for the academic year.

  • Freshman Orientation is a two day program in the summer during which students stay overnight in a UAlbany residence hall.
  • Students will meet with their academic advisor to finalize their class schedule, attend interactive and informative sessions, meet other freshman students, and have fun!
  • Current UAlbany students serve as Orientation Leaders to guide students throughout the entire Orientation program.

Registration:

  • Registration for Orientation begins on May 1st through the Welcome Website. Please see our Registration page for more details on how to sign up for an Orientation date.

Great Dane Beginnings:

  • Great Dane Beginnings is an online community for all new students. This community has a variety of important information to help you prepare for your first semester at UAlbany. To access and complete Great Dane Beginnings, please follow the steps below.
    • Starting on May 1st, login to Blackboard using your NetID and password.
    • Click on the “Community” tab in the top right.
    • Click on “Freshman Great Dane Beginnings” under “My Organizations.”
    • Review all sections of the community and complete all quizzes before your scheduled Orientation date.
  • Completion of Great Dane Beginnings is required for all new students. Please contact Orientation and Transition Programs at orientation@albany.edu with any questions.

New Student Fee:

  • The New Student Fee supports UAlbany undergraduate students throughout their undergraduate careers. Programs supported by this fee include:
    • Two-day Orientation program for all non-EOP freshman students
    • Transfer Advisement sessions and Transfer Orientation for all incoming transfer students
    • Connect2UAlbany programming for first and second year students
    • Prepare4Success programming for third and fourth year students
    • On-line Orientation entitled Great Dane Beginnings
    • Student Success Center programming
  • The New Student Fee is mandatory for all students excluding on-line degree candidates, IELP, Certificate Programs, Continuing Education, and EOP.
  • The New Student Fee is $255 for freshman students and $115 for transfer students.
