Poems by Joseph Farley

What you forget

gone already
whatever it was

past a warm glow
rearranging a thought,

a lost inspiration
that would not wait

for a pen

poetry workshop

The workshop files down
all the rough edges,
blunts the sword,
makes the gun
grow flowers,
turns the fight with the dragon
into a tea party
where they discuss
alternate lines
instead of rivulets
of blood.

Joseph Farley edited Axe Factory 1986-2010. He is the author of eight books and chapbooks of poetry, a novel (Labor Day, and  a collection of short stories. His work has appeared recently in Wilderness House Review, Ygdrasil, Lummox, US 1 Worksheets, and Mad Swirl.
