October 6, 2008 - John Delano is known for his passion for teaching about the origins of life and the composition of the planets. The Distinguished Teaching Professor will bring that same excitement to the community when he discusses the Experiences of a Green Family at UAlbany Day on Saturday, Oct. 25.

Delano, who is among the leading geochemists in the country, earned a doctorate from Stony Brook University in 1977. And while he ordinarily studies the Earth's environment as it existed billions of years ago, on UAlbany Day he will ask audience participants to look at changes they can make to improve the environment today.

"We can all make a difference in helping to ensure that the environment that we have borrowed from our children and grandchildren will still allow them to fulfill their needs and to satisfy their dreams," Delano said. "Although my family has made big strides in this goal, I'll candidly show that my family still has a ways to go in further reducing our carbon footprint."

The event begins at 10:45 a.m. in the Life Sciences D'Ambra Auditorium, and is free and open to the public. It is just one of a myriad of activities and events during UAlbany Day, which will showcase how the University puts the world within reach. UAlbany Day activities will highlight the richness of the University's academics, student success, and campus life to the community at large, prospective students and parents, and UAlbany alumni. The day's activities include tours, a Farmers' Market, a basketball scrimmage, a tailgate party and the Homecoming football game against St. Francis.
