Jessica Nadeau
Jessica Nadeau
School of Public Health graduate Jessica Nadeau has been selected as one of 19 students from across the country to present at the national Delta Omega poster session at the 2008 American Public Health Association (APHA) annual meeting Oct. 25-29 in San Diego, Calif.  Nadeau, UAlbany's Delta Omega poster award nominee, will present her poster, “Preventing the Spread of Seasonal Flu: Measuring the Impact of a Voluntary Program on Influenza Immunization Coverage among Long-Term Care Facility Residents and Employees.”

A May 2008 graduate of the school, Nadeau received a master's degree in public health (MPH).  She will continue her education this fall as a doctoral student in the school’s Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics.

While a student in the MPH program, Nadeau worked on several studies, including her most recent study on influenza vaccine coverage in long-term care facilities, completed in conjunction with the New York State Department of Health.  The study was conducted jointly with a Council of State and Territorial Epidemiologists (CSTE) Fellow, under the direction of Drs. Debra Blog, Barbara Wallace and Louise-Anne McNutt.  The study is expected to be used to formulate new policy about influenza vaccine coverage for health care workers.  Nadeau has also conducted policy research around new prescribing regulations for pseudoephedrine and proposed changes in antibiotic prescribing laws.

Nadeau is currently in Tbilisi, Georgia, in Central Asia, working with McNutt, a 2008 Fulbright Scholar. McNutt is lecturing and conducting research at Tbilisi State Medical University on the development of the School of Public Health and prevention of bloodborne pathogen transmission.  Nadeau’s work with McNutt is focused on research designed to guide public health programs to reduce hepatitis and HIV transmission.  Nadeau will soon travel to Armenia, where she will assist with a study to reduce infectious disease risks among women of reproductive ages.
