Lucy A. Dalglish, executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, will give a lecture in defense of the First Amendment, sponsored by the University at Albany Journalism Program and the New York State Press Association.

Background:
Lucy A. Dalglish, a former reporter and editor at the St. Paul Pioneer Press and media lawyer, has advocated for open government and protection of civil liberties. For eight years, she has served as executive director of the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, which has negotiated to keep government documents in plain view and win legal shields for reporters protecting confidential sources. In 1995, Dalglish was awarded the Wells Memorial Key, the highest honor bestowed by the Society of Professional Journalists. She also was named to the inaugural class of the National Freedom of Information Act Hall of Fame in 1996.
