Professor Agris directors UAlbany's RNA Institute. The RNA Institute at the University at Albany leverages a new paradigm for development and delivery of innovative medicines, vaccines and diagnostics. It brings together leading researchers from higher education and other institutions, and offers advanced facilities for RNA-based drug discovery.

A renowned biochemistry innovator and expert in nucleic acid design, Agris came from North Carolina State University, where he was a professor of biochemistry in the Department of Molecular and Structural Biochemistry, and, for 14 years, headed the RNA Society of North Carolina.

His research insterests include RNA-based drug therapeutics, Structure/function relationships of nucleic acids, and the roles of modified nucleosides in tRNA.
