Name the New Baby Dane UAbany's Great Dane has a new side-kick, who now needs a name. Alumni and students are invited to name the "baby" Dane and submit their ideas by January 21 to the UAlbany Spirit Committee at [email protected]. The Committee will draw up a final list, which the student body will vote on in January. The new name will be announced at the Big Purple Growl February 7. The Great Dane was first chosen by the student body in 1965 to replace the former mascot, "The Pedwin," which had been the mascot of the NYS College for Teachers.

Post 1969 Classes to Reunion at Homecoming UAlbany reunions will have a new twist in 2004: the classes will split their reunions between June and October. Alumni graduating prior to 1970 will reunion at the traditional time in June. However, alumni from the classes of 1970 and after are being invited to hold their reunion during Homecoming 2004, October 8-10. “This change will allow us to appropriately program for each distinctive group and assure that they each get sufficient time to enjoy the campus where they spent their academic careers,” said Lee Serravillo, executive director of the Alumni Association. If your class year ends in a “4” or “9”, you’re celebrating your five-year reunion in 2004. If you’d like to assist in planning class activities, contact your class councilor.
