Requirements for the Minor in U.S. Latino Studies


A minimum of 18 credits, 9 of which must be at or above the 300 level, as follows:

Required core courses (9 credits)

  • ALCS100, “Culture and Power in the Americas”(3 credits)
  • ALCS201, “Latino USA” (3 credits) or ALCS302, “Latinos(as) en Estados Unidos” (choose one; 3 credits)
  • ALCS102, “Introduction to Caribbean History” or ALCS269, “The Caribbean: People, History, and Culture” or ALCS150, “Puerto Rico: People, History and Culture” (choose one; 3 credits)

Electives (9 credits)

  • A total of 9 additional credits in Latin American, Caribbean, and U.S. Latino Studies with ALCS prefix courses or any courses cross-listed with ALCS from other departments
  • The Undergraduate Director will assist students with an individually designed and cohesive curriculum comprised of these electives
