Sri Ganeshaan, First International Student SA President, Kicks off New Term
(CIEGS, May 13, 2022) Congratulations to Sri Sowmiyaa Ganeshaan, the first ever international student to be elected President of the Student Association (SA) at UAlbany. One of the ways Sri kicked off her new term was by congratulating graduating and departing international students and scholars at the May 13th International Celebration in the Science Library Atrium and Parent Fountain Courtyard. Immediately following the encouraging words of the Provost and Senior Vice President Carol Kim and Dean and Vice Provost Gilbert Valverde, SA President Sri’s charismatic and reassuring words helped send off the evening’s honorees into their next life adventures. Vice President of University Advancement Fardin Sanai, another UAlbany executive friend of the international community, joined the International Celebration. Both Vice President Sanai and SA President Sri are also supporters of alumni, helping them stay connected beyond graduation. In SA President Sri's remarks, she encouraged international students turned alumni to stay connected to UAlbany through the SA Office and Division of University Advancement Alumni Associations.
Sri, a F-1 international student from India, is majoring in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Sri is currently a junior and was elected by the UAlbany undergraduate student body to as the 2022-2023 SA President. Sri has a number of other accomplishments deserving of recognition: she recently accepted the Distinguished Leadership Spellman Award and UAlbany President's Great Dane Award; served on the RA Student Advisory Board 21-22; has been awarded Eleanor the Harth Scholarship for outstanding leadership as an RA; was the President of the UAlbany Chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) honor society, and was a UAlbany Student Association Senate member.
ISSS, CIEGS and other university units are excited to work with Sri to continue the SA's goal of building a stronger UAlbany community that fosters student empowe Insert Column To The Rightrment and voice. We hope our UAlbany international students, executive leaders of cultural and national-based student organizations, and the rest of the Great Dane community will engage with Sri and her team and support their vision for a diverse, inclusive and internationalized university.
