Apply as an International Transfer Student

You should apply as a transfer student if you have attended another college or university, even if you were only enrolled for a semester. Here's what to do:

  1. Check our deadlines. UAlbany makes transfer admission decisions on a rolling basis. For priority consideration for the Spring semester, submit your application by December 1. For priority consideration for the Fall semester, submit your application by July 1. Applicants interested in applying after these deadlines should contact our office at (518) 591-8172 or
  2. Submit the application. We encourage you to apply online using the Common Application. Although submitting an online application will expedite the admissions process, if you would prefer to apply on paper, you may download the State University of New York (SUNY) Application. Submit the US$50 fee with your application.
  3. If you applied using the SUNY Application, submit the required UAlbany Transfer Part II. Transfer applicants who apply through the SUNY Application must complete the required Part II application online or download a paper version. Transfer applicants who apply through the Common Application submit their supplemental information directly through the Common Application.
  4. Arrange for your official college transcripts to be sent to us. All transfer applicants must submit official transcripts of all work taken at any college or university, whether or not they expect to receive transfer credit. If you've completed fewer than 24 transferable college credits, you'll also need to submit an official secondary school transcript. Academic transcripts in languages other than English must be accompanied by an official and certified English translation.

    UAlbany also participates in e-transcripts. If you’ve completed college-level work at a participating
    e-transcript institution, you may request to have your official transcript sent electronically from your institution directly to UAlbany.
  5. Submit your test scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) as required. International students may choose to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to strengthen their applications. Transfer students who've obtained a grade of C or better in English composition at a college or university are not required to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
  6. Submit the International Student Financial Statement. If needed, you may download directions for completing the financial statement.
  7. Before you submit the application, be sure to review our checklist to make sure you have all required documents for your application.
