Information Science Online Course Offerings

In order to meet the needs of students who are increasingly looking for flexibility in course offerings, the Department of Information Science offers an undergraduate online program and a number of graduate courses delivered fully online, in addition to traditional on campus and blended courses.

The Department of Information Science is home to the University at Albany's first fully online undergraduate degree program. Students in the BS in Informatics Information Technology concentration can opt to complete their program either on campus or fully online. Students who choose the fully online program should declare that as early in their career as possible so they will have priority seating for fully online courses. Transfer students are also welcomed to choose the fully online IT program. For more information, contact the department advisors or visit our undergraduate online page here.

The department is also involved in a University-wide Online Teaching and Learning initiative through in which we are expanding our graduate online course offerings in order to meet the needs of our graduate student population. We now offer all of the core MSIS classes, most concentration classes, and selected electives online and will continue to expand the variety of online and blended offerings. This means prospective students who have full-time jobs or other responsibilities that prohibit them from moving to Albany can take advantage of a quality graduate school education without ever having to leave home. This is an excellent opportunity for people who are interested in a career change; for instance, we have a number of students who are full time classroom teachers who need to get certified as school library media specialists. Other students have jobs in the information technology field and are looking to obtain their graduate degree for career advancement. Here is a list of our Spring 2018 semester graduate online courses. For more information, please contact the department office at 518-442-5110 or
