I study whiteness in the twentieth century United States. Specifically, I examine the process by which liberal, assimilationist American Jews acclimated themselves to mainstream American society in the post World War II era. My dissertation explores this topic by focusing on liberal and neoconservative Jewish involvement in, and eventual rejection of, the Civil Rights Movement.

I am interested in the connections between white identity and political, as well as cultural conservatism as well as how becoming culturally white impacts an ethnic groups’ collective political identity. Relatedly, I have a research interest in the Black Power Movement, as well as the broader New Left in addition to the evolution of identity politics across the political spectrum in the twentieth century.
