My historical interests are quite broad, as I enjoy exploring topics related to cultural practices and syncretisms, race and gender relations, and the development of class, political, and social agency.  At present, I am currently working on my PhD dissertation: "Nominally Free: the Quest for Black Citizenship in Albany, New York." (Chair: Professor Amy Murrell Taylor), which focuses on the 19th century US, and the way black men in Albany, New York articulated their demands for citizenship rights at a time when political, social, and cultural policies were becoming more exclusionary
