ChampionChip System

In order to ensure the most accurate and quickest results, the Times Union Race for Literacy will be using the ChampionChip scoring system. This system relies on each runner wearing a small, lightweight chip on their sneaker. This chip is encoded with an identification number which corresponds with that runner's personal information in the race database. When the runner crosses the finish line, they will also cross mats on the ground which will recognize each individual runners' code from the chip and record the elapsed time.

Placing the chip on your sneaker is no problem. Just untie your shoe, place one of the laces through the two small holes in the chip, snug the chip up to your sneaker and tie your shoe as normal. All registered runners will receive more detailed insturctions the day of the race.

After the race there will be "Chip Removal Areas" at the finish line, where runners will remove the chip from their sneakers and then proceed to the T-shirt area where they will exchange the chip for a long-sleeve commemorative T-shirt. Once runners have their shirt, they may leave the finish area and meet friends and family in the festival area. Our awards ceremony will be held at the main stage area starting at noon.

For more information on the ChampionChip System, visit our web site at http://www.timesunion.com/classroom/literacy/scoring.asp.

All results will be gun time. (That's the time from the sound of the starting gun, not the time each runner crosses the start line). It is very important that all runners return their chips. When you return the chip, you'll receive a very cool Times Union Race for Literacy long sleeve shirt.
